Stanford에 출장갔다, 우연히 apply한 Lottery에 당첨되어, 10월5일 Half Dome에 올랐습니다.

지난 6월부터, 7전8기끝에 Half Dome Lottery에 당첨되었습니다.  4일은 Housekeeping Camp에서 지내며, Mirror Lake와 Valley meadows 돌아 다녔습니다.  당일엔, High Sierra Trail에 몸이 익어서 그랬는지, 5AM 기상, Trailhead parking area에서 6:15AM 떠났습니다.  Half Dome 남서면에 "오" 자가 보이지요?

7mile을 걸어, Sub Dome의 Base에 도착했습니다. 그곳에서 computer pad들고, Permit 체크하던 Ranger, Mike가 친절하게도  pause 취해주더군요. He said this is the last week of the year, and a citation of $5500 would be issued to anyone attempting to pass this point without proper permit to the Cable.

이곳부터 Half Dome정상까진, 1mile이 조금 못된다 했습니다.  아찔한 Sub Dome 중간에서 잠시 간식을 즐겼습니다. I felt like I had to pee in the steep views all around.

Half Dome's Upper Reaches엔, 이른 시간이라 그런지,  400ft vertical height의 Cable에 매달려있는 hikers수는 생각보다 적었고요. 

1/3정도 올라갔나요? 벌써 양팔의 힘이 빠지고, 숨이 턱밑까지 차오르기 시작하더군요.  몇 hikers들은 포기하고 되돌아 내려오고 있었습니다.  

연평균 300명이 떨어진다고합니다.  잠깐 고민의 순간이 있었지만, "The Show Must Go On!"...
